How to Start a Baby Journal

Let’s be honest, parenting takes A LOT of effort

Between diapers, 3AM feeds, baby laundry, and just trying to eat with one hand (iykyk)… the idea of journalling can feel like one more thing on the endless to-do list.

To be honest, it felt like a chore for us! But what if it didn’t have to be a “task”? What if it was actually a little pause button? Something just for you and your little one? Just one sentence. Just a moment… remembered.

✏️You Don’t Have to Be a “Writer”

This isn’t English class. There are no grades, no red pens, no need for long essays or perfect sentences or handwriting! What you’re writing down is love. And love doesn’t need proofreading.

It can be as simple as:

  • That tiny sigh they make when they fall asleep

  • The way they clutch your shirt while feeding

  • A silly nickname your partner calls them (“Little Caterpillar”? “Cili Padi”?)

  • A moment you thought: “Wow… I’m really their parent.”

Even one word can bring it all rushing back.

Years later, that one word could mean everything.

🕰️ When’s the Best Time to Journal?

Trick question: it’s whenever works for you

There’s no “right way”, just find a rhythm that feels natural:

Rhythm

Ideas

Bedtime

After baby sleeps, 5 quiet mins just for you

Weekly

Sunday night recaps: wins, wobbles, wow moments

Monthly

Firsts, favourites, family memories. Scroll through you camera roll to jog some memories

Milestone moments

Whenever something beautiful (or chaotic) happens

During feeds

Jot thoughts on your phone, then copy into journal later

You’re not behind. Whether your baby is 3 days old or 3 years old, you can start now.

And let’s be real, if you haven’t filled up every page, that’s okay. It just means you were doing what really matters: loving, feeding, rocking, snuggling, showing up day after day. That’s the real work. That’s the real memory.

So don’t feel bad, this journal is here when you’re ready, not to make you feel guilty for what you didn’t write, but to celebrate what you lived.

📖 How Everly Makes It Easy

We created the Everly Baby Journal for parents like you and us, sleep-deprived, fully-in-love kind of parents who are just trying to hold onto the moments that matter. 💛

You won’t find rigid checklists or guilt-trippy to-dos here. Just thoughtful prompts with enough guidance to help you start yet with enough freedom to skip what doesn’t feel right. You get to choose the stories that stood out to you, the moments that made your heart pause.

There’s also space for your scribbles, polaroids, doodles, hospital tags, baby receipts, dried flowers… whatever your memories look like.

No pressure. No perfection. Just presence. And a place to keep it safe.

💡 Tips to Help You Start

  • Keep it short – A few words or one feeling is enough.

  • Don’t censor yourself – Write the sweet and the salty parts of parenting.

  • Use photos – Paste, doodle, scribble little captions. Easy and powerful.

  • Make it yours – Add stickers, washi tape, ticket stubs, baby socks (okay, maybe not socks).

  • Do it as a team – What worked for us was having a catchphrase with each other “that should go into the book!” This then no longer is a sole burden of the mom but a shared activity as a couple. It also helped us remember that we should write something down, even if that is a week later.

Journalling isn’t about being creative. It’s about being real.

💬 The Power of Your Voice

One day, your child will open this journal and hear your voice not your filtered Insta captions, not a slideshow at their wedding…but you. Right now. As you are. Loving them wildly, in the thick of it.

And that? That’s priceless.
